Genesee Country Village & Museum is a mid-sized cultural institution operating a living history museum across more than 600 acres in Mumford, New York, about 20 miles from Rochester, and it ranks as one of the largest of its kind in the country. Since opening to the public in 1976, the site presents an authentic 19th-century village with relocated and restored homes, farms, shops, and other public buildings brought to life by costumed historians. In addition to the village itself, the campus houses the John L. Wehle Art Gallery, the Genesee Country Nature Center, Silver Baseball Park, and several heirloom gardens, alongside a program of special events and classes offered throughout the year. The museum serves visitors, students, and cultural enthusiasts seeking immersive historical interpretation of 19th-century life, reflecting its live-history approach through its programming. A notable development in recent years is a collaboration with Rohrbach Brewing Company in 2022 to produce the museum’s historical beers, which are available on tap at museum restaurants and the Freight House Pub.
