The Georgia Department of Public Health is a state government agency in Georgia that concentrates on public health, with its headquarters at 200 Piedmont Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30334. It employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people. Its mission is to prevent disease, injury and disability; promote health and well being; and prepare for and respond to health-related disasters. In 2011, the Georgia General Assembly restored DPH to its own state agency after more than 30 years of consolidation with other departments. At the state level, DPH operates through numerous divisions, sections, programs and offices, and locally it funds and collaborates with Georgia's 159 county health departments and 18 public health districts. Core functions include health promotion and disease prevention, maternal and child health, infectious disease and immunization, environmental health, epidemiology, emergency preparedness and response, emergency medical services, pharmacy, nursing, volunteer health care, the office of health equity, vital records, and the state public health laboratory. The agency maintains a online presence at the official website www.dph.ga.gov for information.
