Global Refuge is a Baltimore-based nonprofit focused on helping people who seek safety from persecution and on reuniting families affected by conflict. Founded in 1939 and formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), the organization operates through advocacy, care, and empowerment. Its work includes resettling refugees, protecting unaccompanied children arriving in the United States, and pursuing policies that promote compassion and justice for migrants. The organization primarily serves refugees and other migrants facing safety concerns and the challenges of family reunification. As a mid-sized nonprofit in the migration and refugee services sector, Global Refuge supports immigrant protection and assistance across the United States. In early 2024 it launched a redesigned website to strengthen outreach and service delivery.
