Go Conscious Earth (GCE) is a Congolese-founded global nonprofit acting locally to secure land tenure and support Indigenous Peoples and local communities of the Congo Basin in managing their traditionally owned forests, while creating pathways for sustainable alternative livelihoods. The Congo Basin rainforest is the second-largest tropical rainforest in the world, of global importance for both biodiversity conservation and climate stability. To date, GCE has supported communities to preserve 82,000 hectares of high-integrity tropical forest as Local Community Forest Concessions, home to endangered bonobos and African forest elephants. We have engaged 17 villages, totaling over 33,000 community members, in community forestry, participatory land use planning, and sustainable livelihoods. Mission: GCE envisions a world where thriving local communities contribute to the health and resilience of the Congo Basin rainforest through sustainable management of their own lands. Vision: As caretakers of their forest land and resources, local and Indigenous communities in the Congo Basin can thrive while supporting biodiversity and climate resilience.
