The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball franchise in the spectator sports industry and a charter member of the National Basketball Association. The franchise was founded in 1946 and began in Philadelphia before relocating to the West Coast in 1962 as the San Francisco Warriors, then adopting the Golden State name in 1971 when it moved to Oakland. Today the organization is based in San Francisco and plays its home games at Chase Center, an 18,064-seat arena that anchors Thrive City in Mission Bay; it has announced plans to add a WNBA franchise in 2025. Chase Center and the surrounding Thrive City illustrate the team’s integration of sports with broader urban life in the San Francisco region. In February 2026 the organization named Stackhouse as head coach, marking a notable leadership development.
