The Green Mountain Club is an environmental services organization focused on trail stewardship. It founded and maintains the Long Trail, the oldest long-distance hiking route in the United States. Established in 1910 to build a cross-Vermont trail, the group now also maintains portions of the Appalachian Trail in Vermont and trails in the Northeast Kingdom, pursuing a mission to deepen the connection between people and the Vermont mountains. Based in Waterbury Center, Vermont, the club operates as a small organization that coordinates hiking access and trail maintenance for outdoor enthusiasts. In recent years it has pursued community-oriented activities such as releasing an updated Long Trail Guide in 2025 and hosting an Outdoor Adventure Speaker Series, with additional partnerships aimed at protecting and maintaining trails statewide.
