Greenstand is a U.S.-based nonprofit operating in the environmental services field, applying open-source technology to combat climate change and alleviate poverty through digitizing environmental goods and services. It is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, and counts a global community of contributors; the organization has a network of around 350 participants. Its Treetracker app verifies and tracks individual trees, enabling organizations and donors to locate trees and to trade their ecological impact, thereby increasing transparency and accountability in reforestation efforts.
Greenstand emphasizes a data-driven shift from merely planting trees to cultivating diverse forests, validating incremental growth for each tree, and packaging this data into a tree wallet system accessible worldwide, while aiming to unlock employment opportunities in forest restoration on a per-tree basis. In 2023, the organization formed a partnership with DigitalOcean as its primary provider, reflecting its approach to infrastructure collaboration.
