Hagley Museum and Library sits on the historic DuPont black powder works in Wilmington, Delaware, spanning about 235 acres along the Brandywine River. The site preserves stone ruins, restored buildings, and the original DuPont family home and gardens, illustrating more than two centuries of American enterprise and innovation. Visitors can explore exhibitions on the DuPont story, the Industrial Revolution, water power, and simple machines, watch powder yard demonstrations, and tour the family home. The Hagley Library is a leading research collection for the history of American enterprise, holding the DuPont family and DuPont Company papers, along with archives from more than 1,000 businesses. It is the only Smithsonian Affiliate museum in Delaware and has held accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums since 1972, while also being recognized as a National Historic Landmark, National Recreation Trail, and Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. In 2026, Hagley was named one of the nation’s Best Open-Air Museums by USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.
