Hartnell College is part of the Hartnell Community College District, a public higher-education system founded in 1920 and based in Salinas, California. The district serves more than 16,000 students each year through its main campus in Salinas, the Alisal Campus in East Salinas, the King City Education Center, and a network of outreach sites throughout the Salinas Valley. As a Hispanic Serving Institution, Hartnell offers workforce training, basic skills courses, and pathways to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The college is noted for establishing collaborations with public and private partners to support STEM education, career technical training, and arts, humanities, and athletics programs. Its regional reach and emphasis on access align with a mission to foster student development and achievement. In 2025, Hartnell launched the Climate and Environmental Resilience Ambassadors Program to empower students to lead climate adaptation and environmental resilience efforts.
