The Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) represents primary pharmaceutical distributors and serves as the essential link between manufacturers and about 450,000 pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, and other providers nationwide. Founded in 1876, HDA operates as a non-profit trade association that helps members navigate regulations and innovations to ensure medicines reach patients safely and efficiently. The HDA Research Foundation, the organization's charitable arm, supports research and education focused on priority healthcare supply chain issues. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the association serves manufacturers and distributors and the broader network of pharmacies and care facilities by working to improve access and reliability in the medical supply chain. It also runs initiatives related to supply chain security, including the Pharmaceutical Cargo Security Coalition, and has launched the GDP Accreditation Program. In November 2025, HDA announced the addition of a new hire to its staff.
