Hear and Say is a Queensland-based charity operating in the hospitals and health care sector to support deaf children and their families. It collaborates with families and medical professionals to improve outcomes through early diagnosis, access to advanced hearing technology, and auditory-verbal therapy that teaches listening and speaking. The therapy approach treats the child holistically, including occupational therapy, and supports services from early intervention after newborn screening through school programs and beyond, with Telepractice extending reach to rural and remote communities. The organization maintains a network of centres in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton and Townsville, with Ashgrove in Brisbane serving as its base. Thousands of children, young people and families benefit from its programs each year, and in 2017 all participants in the Early Intervention Program progressed into mainstream schools.
