The founders of HK Organization, Harry Kotowitz and Howard Klaus, each have more than 25 years of experience in the real estate development industry and have created several million square feet of residential, commercial and industrial space. Their insight has enabled them to be pioneers in emerging neighborhoods ahead of the market curve. Additionally, HK has continually adapted to the changing market, consistently finding innovative projects that create value through astute planning and strategy.

Since the early 2000s, HK has been a significant player in Downtown Brooklyn and the burgeoning Brooklyn Tech Triangle. Mr. Kotowitz and Mr. Klaus were instrumental in developing the first luxury apartments in DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, and Williamsburg. Enduring respect for historic buildings allowed them to restore and renew several architectural jewels, including the Smith Gray Building and 99 Gold Street. HK’s development expertise, and long-term commitment to Brooklyn resulted in the successful bid for the Empire Stores project on the DUMBO waterfront. The principals’ extensive experience in real estate development also includes ground-up developments, such as 52 East 4th Street, a soaring modern loft building on the Bowery.

Kotowitz and Klaus have also created thousands of low and middle-income housing units throughout the City of New York. In conjunction with various New York City housing agencies, such as the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC), as well as community-based not-for-profit organizations, they have participated in the construction, marketing and management of several thousand units of affordable housing.
