Homer Electric Association, Inc. is a member-owned electric utility that serves the central and southern portions of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Its service area includes the communities of Sterling, Soldotna, Kenai, Nikiski, Homer, and the south side of Kachemak Bay from Halibut Cove to Nanwalek. The cooperative operates three generation plants on the Kenai Peninsula and is governed by a nine-member elected Board of Directors. Based in Homer, Alaska, HEA maintains a substantial distribution network, with over 33,000 meters on its system and 2,407 miles of energized lines across a 3,166-square-mile service territory. In August 2024, HEA partnered with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to evaluate Cook Inlet's tidal energy resources, reflecting an effort to explore alternative energy resources within its grid.
