Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is an academic medical center and hospital focused on musculoskeletal health, with its main campus at 535 East 70th Street in New York City and additional facilities across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, the Long Island and Westchester County regions of New York State, and Florida. Founded in 1863, HSS is affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College. The institution is nationally recognized for orthopedic care, consistently ranked No. 1 in orthopedics for 16 consecutive years, and No. 3 in rheumatology by U.S. News & World Report for 2025–2026; it is also listed as the best pediatric orthopedic hospital in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for 2025–2026. A separate Newsweek survey of medical professionals in more than 20 countries named HSS world No. 1 in orthopedics for 2025. It has the lowest readmission rates in the nation for orthopedics and among the lowest infection and complication rates. The organization employs over 10,000 people.
