House Rabbit Society is a nonprofit organization that seeks to redefine how rabbits are viewed and treated as domestic companions. It promotes the idea that rabbits are intelligent, social animals that thrive indoors, and it pursues this through education, rescue, and awareness efforts to improve welfare and living standards for indoor rabbits. Based in Richmond, California, the organization operates in the philanthropic fundraising services sector as a small to mid-sized nonprofit. Its work targets current and prospective rabbit guardians, shelters, educators, and others who influence rabbit welfare, aiming to address misperceptions and gaps in care, legal recognition, and housing for domesticated rabbits. Resources and information are available through its website, houserabbit.org.
