Huatai Insurance Company of China, Limited was incorporated in Beijing in 1996 as the first nationwide joint-stock property insurer in China. Its ownership comprises 53 shareholders across 24 industries, including energy, metallurgy, chemicals, aviation, and shipping, with assets reported to exceed RMB 2 trillion. The company has built a nationwide network with branches in 35 cities, reflecting its scale and reach within the Chinese insurance market. In 2002, ACE Group became Huatai’s largest shareholder, providing access to international management practices and a global business network. In the mid-2000s the company expanded to form Huatai Asset Management Company and Huatai Life Insurance Company, signaling a move toward a group-structure, and by 2006 its insurance business continued to grow while its investment activities posted a record year, making Huatai the only Chinese insurer to realize profit and dividend distribution for ten consecutive years.
