Hudson County Community College is a higher education institution in Jersey City, New Jersey, serving the Hudson County area. It was established in 1974 by the New Jersey Board of Higher Education as one of the country's first contract colleges and was officially named Hudson County Community College in 1981. The college has experienced significant growth, expanding course offerings, student services, and facilities, with enrollment rising from 4,129 in 1996 to 9,400 in Fall 2011. The campus employs between 1,001 and 5,000 staff and maintains a website at hccc.edu. Recent 2026 developments include the appointment of Lisa Dougherty as Interim President effective June 9, 2026, a Rutgers University–Newark CONNECT Transfer Pathways agreement, an articulation with Stockton University enabling Cannabis Studies transfer to a B.S. in Hemp and Cannabis Business Management, and ongoing plans for apprenticeship-to-degree pathways with NJIT and Bricklayers, along with recognition such as the 2024 Bellwether Legacy Award.
