Humanoids is a book and periodical publisher known for its creative innovation and independent approach to sequential art. It began in Paris in the early 1970s as Les Humanoïdes Associés, where three young creators launched the magazine Métal Hurlant to push the boundaries of the medium. Since then, the company has released thousands of original titles, with many translated into multiple languages, and some works such as The Incal achieving broad international reach. Today the company is based in Los Angeles, California, and its catalogs are distributed worldwide, including through its own iTunes apps. In 2015 it established an audiovisual development division through partnerships with international and Los Angeles–based partners, expanding beyond traditional book publishing. Humanoids continues to publish graphic novels and related media, reflecting its evolution from a French publishing house into a broader media publisher with a dedicated production division.
