Humboldt Builders Exchange, Inc., founded in 1959 in Eureka, California by local contractors and an architect, operates as a nonprofit construction trade association. Since the early 1960s it has operated a plan room and grown into a membership-based organization focused on upholding high standards, integrity, and ethical practices within the construction industry. The association comprises more than 300 licensed general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and related businesses, united by a shared interest in construction norms and reliable business relations.

Beyond its trade association role, HBE administers scholarship programs funded by its 501c3 Community Fund, awarding aid to College of the Redwoods students in construction and architectural/drafting technology, as well as local high school graduates. The organization relies on two annual fundraising events: a golf tournament and a See's Candy sale, to support these scholarships, with donations described as tax-deductible. In recent activity, Humboldt Trades Day took place at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds in partnership with the Humboldt County Office of Education, reflecting ongoing collaboration with regional educational institutions.
