It operates a landmark facility on a 52-acre site where art and nature intertwine, housing a substantial collection, rotating exhibitions, and educational programs. Its holdings include Ohio Valley glass, Appalachian folk art, American furniture and firearms, and 19th- and 20th-century American and European paintings, as well as Islamic prayer rugs. Recent developments include recognition such as the 2024 Walter Gropius Award for excellence, and earlier the 2021 Institution of the Year award from the West Virginia Association of Museums, as well as the launch of The Visual Elements series in 2022.
