I AM: Empowering the Next Generation is a small non-profit organization based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It has developed a social and emotional learning program designed to meet the needs of the whole child by fostering identity, voice, personal growth, and character development. The ten-month program runs from August through May and serves Kindergarten through 5th grade, with weekly 45-minute sessions led by an I AM Instructor. The curriculum combines hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and student-led discussions about how students' views of themselves affect their lives and those around them. Each semester includes a school-wide service learning project, such as assembling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child in the fall and collecting food for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in the spring.
