IACIS is a global, nonprofit association that supports digital forensics professionals through structured training, credentialing, and peer assistance. Volunteer members from the digital forensics community run the organization and contribute to its programs. The flagship certification, known as the Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), is a rigorous peer‑reviewed process designed to validate competence. The group serves practitioners worldwide, offering education and an internationally recognized pathway to credentialing and ongoing professional development. Training programs have been delivered across multiple regions, with examiners trained from 66 countries.

Based in Leesburg, Virginia, IACIS traces its origins to 1990, with the first training event held in Oregon and later expanding to Europe beginning in 2005 with a training session in Germany. In 2012 it achieved accreditation from the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board as a certifying organization. The organization operates within the professional training and coaching market for digital forensics and emphasizes peer support as part of its mission. It is characterized as a mid‑sized, volunteer‑driven entity. A notable recent development is a 2021 partnership with Detego to broaden collaboration in the digital forensics training ecosystem.
