The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) is a public-safety agency based in Springfield, Illinois, focused on disaster readiness and security for the state. It coordinates disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery programs and acts as the State Emergency Response Commission. It operates a 24-hour Communication Center and a State Emergency Operations Center to manage crisis response and coordinate the deployment of state resources, and it supports local governments by developing multi-hazard emergency operation plans and maintaining the Illinois Emergency Operations Plan.

In addition, IEMA-OHS is responsible for protecting residents from ionizing radiation and administers more than two dozen programs aimed at safeguarding people and the environment. Its radiation-related activities include emergency planning and response for radiological incidents, licensing and inspection of radioactive materials licensees, registering and inspecting radiation-producing equipment and facilities statewide, accrediting medical radiation technologists, and certifying mammography facilities. The agency also monitors 11 nuclear power reactors at six stations licensed to generate electricity in Illinois and oversees the inspection and escort of spent nuclear fuel shipments.
