The Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière (IGN) serves as France’s official authority for geographic and forest information, providing neutral, interoperable geospatial data to public needs. It develops new reference datasets, products, and geoservices to meet growing cartographic and geolocalized information requirements. Its work supports public policy in risk prevention, land-use planning, sustainable development, defense, and national security. Based in Saint-Mandé, Île-de-France, IGN is a sizable public institution. It operates five research laboratories that sustain high-level innovation in its core geospatial disciplines.
