Imec USA operates as a nonprofit center for semiconductor research in the United States. Since its founding in 1984, imec has conducted pre-competitive research and IP licensing programs spanning logic and memory technologies, advanced patterning, 3D heterogeneous integration, integrated photonics, and RF. Its mission is to accelerate semiconductor innovation by fostering collaboration between academia and industry, sharing infrastructure and expertise to shorten the path from laboratory work to manufacturing. Its network includes leading global firms across the semiconductor value chain, with roughly six in ten partners based in the United States. Its activities are aimed at organizations across the semiconductor ecosystem seeking collaborative R&D opportunities and access to IP that can support advances in technology, systems, and applications. In June 2026 imec announced a collaboration with ASML and TSMC to demonstrate a scalable 300mm integration route for 2D-material-based n- and pFETs.
