The Institute for Palestine Studies, founded in 1963, is an independent nonprofit research organization based in Beirut with additional offices in Washington, D.C., and Ramallah, dedicated to the study of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Its publications are rigorously researched and widely cited, including the Journal of Palestine Studies, issued in English and Arabic. As the first unaffiliated Arab institute, it has served as a model of independence in the region, guided by a board drawn from Palestinian and broader Arab leadership. The organization maintains a central library in Beirut that is the largest in the Arab world devoted to Palestinian affairs, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and Zionism, with archives spanning rare books, private papers, and newspaper collections in Arabic, Hebrew, and English, along with a substantial photographic collection. In 2025 it expanded its digital reach with an Arabic-language platform and is planning a French version, expanding access to its resources. Overall, the Institute operates within the book and periodical publishing industry as a specialized research and knowledge-provider for scholars, policymakers, and others interested in Palestine studies.
