The Institute of International Bankers is a New York–based trade association dedicated to internationally headquartered banks operating in the United States. Founded in 1966, it is the only national association focused exclusively on representing these institutions within the U.S. Its mission is to ensure that U.S. banking laws and regulations provide international banks with the same competitive opportunities as domestic banks, through monitoring developments and advocating for national-treatment outcomes. Its guidance also aims to prevent unwarranted extraterritorial applications of U.S. laws to the global operations of its member banks. Its membership includes institutions from more than 35 countries, and collectively the U.S. branches, agencies, subsidiaries, and other operations of member banks contribute to credit provision and liquidity in U.S. financial markets. In 2026, the IIB participated in its Annual Washington Conference, reflecting ongoing engagement with policymakers.
