The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a young, international research institution dedicated to graduate education, science education, and cutting-edge research in the physical, mathematical, computer, and life sciences. Located in Klosterneuburg on the outskirts of Vienna, the Institute was opened in 2009. Currently, there are more than 70 research groups on campus. The Institute expects to reach its full capacity of 150 research groups by 2036. The governance and management structures of ISTA guarantee its independence and freedom from political and commercial influences. Professor Martin Hetzer became the second President of ISTA in 2023. He is a renowned molecular biologist and former Senior Vice President at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California, USA.
