Founded in 1977, the International Aroid Society (IAS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the global authority on the plant family Araceae. As the official International Cultivar Registration Authority (ICRA), we serve as a professional bridge between the botanical community and the world of tropical horticulture.

Our mission is to foster a global network where scholarly expertise and enthusiastic passion coexist. The IAS serves as a knowledge hub, providing our members with authoritative resources such as our esteemed peer-reviewed journal, Aroideana, and comprehensive digital archives designed to guide users through species identification and nomenclature with clarity and precision.

Each year, the IAS hosts one of the world’s largest gatherings of aroid experts and enthusiasts: IAS TROPICAL PLANT EXPO. This hallmark international event in Miami serves as the focal point for our community, featuring lectures and workshops led by world-renowned botanists and other experts, a curated marketplace connecting leading international nurseries with collectors, and our annual Rare Plant Auction. This auction generates the critical funding necessary to support global research grants, conservation efforts, and educational initiatives.
