The International Society of Automation (ISA) is a non-profit professional association founded in 1945 and based in Durham, North Carolina. It serves the global automation community by developing standards, certifying professionals, providing education and training, and publishing books and technical articles; it also hosts conferences and exhibits and facilitates networking and career development. The organization focuses on advancing technical competence across automation, serving both practitioners and organizations in manufacturing and critical infrastructure. ISA has established the ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance to strengthen cybersecurity readiness and awareness in manufacturing and critical infrastructure, bringing together end-user companies, automation and control systems providers, IT infrastructure providers, services providers, system integrators, and other stakeholders. It connects standards to implementation through its ecosystem of initiatives and subsidiaries, including ownership of Automation.com and sponsorship of The Automation Federation, along with related institutes focused on security and wireless compliance, and in 2026 announced a strategic co-publishing partnership with Wiley to broaden access to its publishing content.
