The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is an independent international organization established in 1997 at the initiative of the United Nations Development Programme and is based in Seoul, South Korea. Its mission is to discover, develop, and deliver vaccines that are safe, effective, and affordable, with the goal of advancing vaccine equity and sustainable health impact globally. Its portfolio includes vaccines at various stages of development targeting infectious diseases that affect low- and middle-income countries, such as cholera, typhoid fever, chikungunya, shigellosis, salmonellosis, schistosomiasis, hepatitis E, HPV- and group A streptococcus-related diseases, and COVID-19. IVI developed the world's first low-cost oral cholera vaccine and a new-generation typhoid conjugate vaccine, both pre-qualified by the World Health Organization. IVI maintains a global footprint with regional and country offices across Europe and Africa, including a Europe Regional Office in Sweden and an Africa Regional Office in Rwanda, plus offices in Austria and Kenya, and in May 2026 it expanded with a Country Office in Nairobi, Kenya, while outlining collaboration with national institutions such as the Kenya Medical Research Institute, Kenya Biovax Institute, and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
