The Iowa League of Cities is a member-based public sector association in government administration that serves as the collective voice for Iowa's cities, providing advocacy, training, and guidance to strengthen communities. Founded in 1898, it grew from a meeting of city officials in Marshalltown who sought to unify cities to benefit local governance across the state. More than 870 Iowa municipalities participate as members, and the League is governed by an Executive Board organized by geographic region and city size. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, the League delivers member services through research, publications, trainings, and workshops, and it coordinates programs that support city operations, including insurance, investments, and group purchasing. In 2024 the organization announced Chelsea Hoye as director of government affairs.
