Jeffco Public Schools is a large public K-12 district based in Golden, Colorado, serving about 69,000 students across 155 schools in 770 square miles, making it the state's second-largest district. Founded around 1950, it emphasizes educational excellence and strong ties with the community through a broad set of programs. The district offers a wide array of options, including neighborhood schools, dual-language and expeditionary learning, integrated arts, STEM/STEAM, and International Baccalaureate, along with full-day kindergarten, 55 preschool locations, career and technical education, non-traditional options, 17 charter schools, and an outdoor education program. Its Jeffco Generations framework centers on skills such as civic and global engagement, communication, critical and creative thinking, collaboration and leading by influence, adaptability, and self-direction. In 2026 the board named Rob Stein as interim superintendent, effective July 6, following the departure of Dr. Tracy Dorland. The district has pursued partnerships to expand student pathways, including a collaboration with Red Rocks Community College to connect classroom learning with real-world opportunities for students.
