The JDCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that  is focused on accelerating a cure for type 1 diabetes. The organization works with donors, researchers, medical professionals, charitable organizations, and those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their family members to ensure more resources are directed to cure research.

Primary JDCA activities are advocacy, research reporting, and community engagement. 

The organization advocates for the main T1D research funders to materially increase the amount of resources directed to cure research. The main driver of this advocacy is the annual "More for a T1D Cure" petition, which has amassed 390,000 signatures. 

The organization publishes in-depth analysis of the type 1 diabetes landscape, cure research progress, project funding, non-profit fundraising, and donor priorities. 

Finally, JDCA seeks input from those directly affected by T1D through user surveys and rallies the T1D community during virtual fundraising challenges, most notably the annual T1D Cure 100 Mile Challenge during Diabetes Awareness Month.
