Kids In Distress (KID) is a nationally accredited nonprofit organization based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, focused on preventing child abuse, preserving families, and treating abused and neglected children. Founded in 1979 as a shelter, the group has grown to operate two Broward County campuses and a foster care office in Palm Beach County, and its scope broadened in 2019 through the acquisition of Family Central, Inc., which added family strengthening, early learning, a child care food program, and educational training services in South Florida. As a mid-sized organization, it emphasizes a coordinated system of care delivered by clinical professionals and serves more than 20,000 children and families each year. Its programs encompass foster care recruitment and training, kinship support, early childhood education, aftercare and summer programs, adoption and reunification services, family strengthening, maternal health, a family counseling center, and pediatric dental services in partnership with Nova Southeastern University. In December 2023, PuroClean partnered with KID to organize a toy donation drive that collected hundreds of toys for local families.
