Kinetic River develops and manufactures optical instrumentation, primarily for biomedical laboratory research. We focus on flow cytometry, the rapid multiparametric analysis of cells and other particles. Our latest product, the Delaware Flow NanoCytometer®, is the most versatile and high-resolution nanoparticle analyzer on the market, capable of measuring particles from 28 nm to 28 µm—a range 100 times bigger than our competitors’. Our Potomac Modular Flow Cytometer is a completely customizable particle analyzer; we have installed units at NIH’s National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., and at the National Research Council of Italy in Naples. We also offer nanoparticle analysis services—customers send us their samples and we return comprehensive characterization reports. We have been issued 26 US and international patents to date for our innovative work on flow cytometry, particle analysis, microfluidics, and optical interrogation of materials. The NIH has awarded us five competitive SBIR grants (including two Phase II awards) to help us develop, among other things, a novel approach to cell analysis: Time-Resolved Flow Cytometry. This technique has enabled the creation of a compensation-free cell analyzer, and of one that automatically removes autofluorescence background from measured signals. We also provide various consulting services in the areas of optics, microfluidics, cell analysis, and cell sorting. Beside supporting customers in the life sciences, we additionally serve the needs of fields from semiconductor equipment to manufacturing of solar cells, fiber optics, and other optical components. With 80 issued patents and many more pending, and experience serving as expert witness in 17 patent dispute cases, Kinetic River founder and CEO, Dr. Giacomo Vacca, has extensive knowledge both in the generation and in the litigation of intellectual property.
