Lao Airlines is the national carrier of the Lao PDR, headquartered in Vientiane, Vientiane Prefecture. It traces its origins to 1976, formed from the merger of Royal Air Lao and Lao Air Lines and originally operated as the Civil Aviation Company before adopting the Lao Aviation name for several decades. The airline operates in the airlines and aviation sector, serving a mix of international and domestic routes, with a network that today spans twelve international destinations and six Lao domestic locations. Its fleet has evolved from early Western aircraft and helicopters to a backbone of ATR turboprops, supplemented by aircraft for remote domestic routes, and the introduction of the A320 to enable faster international travel. The international network includes connections to Bangkok, Hanoi, Kunming, Guangzhou, Seoul, Busan and Singapore. In January 2026, Lao Airlines appointed Fongsisouphan Phommavong as Deputy Director General.
