The Literacy Council of North America is a nonprofit association focused on supporting Reading Recovery and early literacy professionals across North America. It convenes educators and administrators to broaden teacher training and improve outcomes in children's reading achievement. Founded in 1996 and based in Worthington, Ohio, the organization is guided by a volunteer board and offers membership to individuals with an interest in Reading Recovery and early literacy. The council develops professional resources, advocates for the Reading Recovery program, and funds ongoing professional development and research activities. Reading Recovery is a short-term, one-to-one tutoring intervention for the lowest-achieving first graders, delivered through a three-tiered professional development model for teachers, teacher leaders, and university trainers. In 2022, the organization announced new member-focused series and formed a partnership with Kivvit to support outreach and advocacy efforts.
