Lithion Technologies develops a durable, cost-effective process to recover strategic materials from spent lithium-ion batteries and other non-compliant components. The process can recover up to 95% of materials, enabling reuse in new batteries. This approach helps close the battery life-cycle by providing a secondary source of critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. The company is based near Montreal, Quebec, and operates in the renewable energy equipment manufacturing sector with a plan to deploy its technology globally, starting from a pilot plant launched in 2019. It is moving to scale its operations with its first commercial critical minerals extraction facility near Montreal. In October 2025, Lithion announced a strategic partnership with Nissan Group and Nissan Canada to recycle end-of-life EV batteries in Canada.
