The Lowy Institute is an independent international policy think tank based in Sydney, New South Wales. It aims to generate new ideas and dialogue about international developments and Australia’s role in the world. Its mandate spans economic, political, and strategic dimensions of international policy debates in Australia and is not limited to any particular geographic region. Its work includes producing policy resources that examine power dynamics and development financing in the Asia-Pacific, such as the Asia Power Index and regional aid maps. In May 2026 the institute appointed Shruti Pandalai as its inaugural India Chair.
