EastWest Institute is a think tank based in New York City that has operated for about four decades. In early 2021, the board restructured the organization by winding down its prior model and moving its programs into four new entities to maintain continuity, while preserving the founder’s legacy through a collaboration with the College of Charleston to create the John Edwin Mroz Global Leadership Institute. This partnership ties the late John Edwin Mroz to an ongoing leadership initiative housed at the College of Charleston, signaling a transition in how the institute’s work is carried forward. Since the organizational shift, EastWest Institute has continued to participate in international policy dialogue through partnerships and initiatives. Notable recent activity includes the Balkan Dialogues, launched in 2020 to foster inclusive, high-level discussion of security issues in the Western Balkans, and a 2023 collaboration with the Kasuso Foundation to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The organization has facilitated discussions on geopolitics and security topics, including webinars on COVID-19 and the Afghanistan elections, and has produced guidance on urban risk reduction for future-smart cities.
