Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is a statewide, not-for-profit social service agency affiliated with the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, it has served the state since 1867 and operates a network of locations to deliver a broad range of services. Its programs include foster care, mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment, affordable senior housing, residential supports for people with developmental disabilities, and reentry assistance for individuals returning to the community after incarceration. The organization serves a largely low-income client base, with more than 80 percent of clients reporting annual household incomes under $15,000. Recent developments include collaborations such as a partnership with Htchicago to support a group home in Irving Park and the Families Together initiative with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to reduce the length of foster care placements.
