Main Street Housing, Inc. is an organization dedicated to developing affordable and independent housing for individuals and families with psychiatric disabilities. In 1999, leaders of the consumer movement created a new entity called Main Street Housing (MSH) to purchase and maintain affordable housing for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. MSH has tripled in size since 1999 and become the leader in consumer housing in the state of Maryland. MSH promotes a “Main Street Model” where individuals regardless of psychiatric disability have the right and choice to live in communities that are safe and desirable. The “Main Street Model” makes independent community living a reality for consumers by encouraging our tenants to be involved in decisions which affect their lives and gives them the skills to be accountable for their actions. Main Street Housing currently has properties in 11 counties and has the capacity to provide housing for 70 individuals throughout the state of Maryland
