The Maine Turnpike Authority is an independent state agency created by the Maine Legislature in 1941 to construct and maintain a toll-funded highway that serves as a backbone of Maine’s economy. It operates the 109-mile Maine Turnpike, a network that includes multi-lane sections, bridges and interchanges, toll plazas, maintenance facilities, service plazas, and an administration and public safety building.
