Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is a higher education institution in South Africa and one of the six universities of technology in the country. Located in Umlazi Township, Durban, MUT operates from 511 Griffiths Mxenge Highway and employs between 1,001 and 5,000 staff. The university comprises three faculties—Engineering, Management Sciences, and Natural Sciences. It serves about 14,500 students with gender parity of roughly 50/50; the campus accommodates close to 90% of the student population, while the balance sits across 43 outsourced residences, and international students are housed in the Executive Hotel. MUT traces its origins to 1979, named after founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and articulates a vision of transforming, equitable, sustainable, academically excellent education anchored in communities, with an anchor strategy to revitalise Umlazi Township and a mandatory work-integrated learning program.
