Mason County PUD No. 3 is a municipal public utility district in the utilities sector that provides electricity and wholesale telecommunications services via a fiber optic network in Washington state. It serves about 35,000 customers primarily in Mason County and small portions of Kitsap, Grays Harbor, and Pierce Counties, and is headquartered in Shelton with an additional office in Belfair. Established in 1939, PUD 3 owns and operates 11 substations and maintains more than 1,800 miles of power lines, including roughly 1,074 miles underground and 686 miles overhead. The organization operates as a municipal corporation under RCW 54. It employs about 115 full-time-equivalent staff and reports revenue in the range of $100 million to $250 million, with a 2012 adopted budget of $57 million and 2011 electricity sales of approximately 670 million kWh (average load around 80 MW and peak load around 160 MW).
