Barnes and McDonnell Pediatric Dentistry was established by Dr. Daniel Barnes in 1989 with the mission of providing fun, affordable, and preventive-centered care for all infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and special needs patients in the Volusia County area and beyond.  Dr. Barnes's practice has since expanded to include three pediatric dentists - Dr. Barnes, Dr. McDonnell, and Dr. Parsons - and two office locations - one in Port Orange, FL and one in Ormond Beach, FL.  After 25 years, Barnes and McDonnell Pediatric Dentistry remains committed to the prevention of dental cavities.

Successfully preventing dental cavities in children allows us to keep dental care affordable and fun for both our patients and their caregivers.  We use extensive parent education, prescription-strength fluoride products (toothpastes, rinses and varnishes), and prevention regimens customized to each patient's needs to keep cavities at bay.  Restorative care (fillings, caps, and extractions) are only used as a final option to prevent or relieve painful dental conditions that can be treated in no other reasonable way.  Our knowledge of current prevention techniques and growth and development patterns allows us to help our families avoid the expensive and uncomfortable dental treatment that is usually the first option at dental offices that rely exclusively on insurance plans that financially incentivize fillings and extractions over preventive care.  Finally, few things correlate more with a person's long-term oral health than the experiences with dental care during his or her childhood.  By treating cavities medically rather than surgically, creating a friendly office environment including magic shows, and utilizing sedative medications when indicated for young and apprehensive patients, we ensure a positive experience that will translate into a lifetime of dental health benefits.
