The Dutch branch of Menicon, based in Emmen in the Drenthe region of the Netherlands, has a history spanning more than four decades in contact lens manufacturing. It began in 1974 as NKL Contactlenzen, with a focus on rigid contact lenses. Over time it broadened its portfolio to include soft made-to-order lenses and Menicon Z-Night lenses.

In 2006 the Dutch arm joined the Japanese company Menicon, extending its scope beyond manufacturing. Since then it has also distributed soft disposable lenses and contact lens solutions. Operating in the medical equipment manufacturing industry, the business maintains a mid-sized presence in its regional market.
