The original treatment facilities were constructed in the early 1950’s, including the current influent channels, aerated grit chamber and primary clarifiers.  In the early 1970’s the plant was upgraded with the addition of the activated sludge process, gravity thickener and disinfection.  In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s plant upgrades included anaerobic digestion, belt filter presses, sludge storage facilities and chemical phosphorus removal. Now we are in the process of a full scale biological phosphorus removal pilot project. 
The plant is a conventional activated sludge treatment facility providing primary settling and biological secondary treatment. Primary and waste activated sludge is pumped to anaerobic digesters for digestion and stabilization.  Digested sludge is dewatered by belt presses and stored on site prior to application on agricultural land.
