The Met Office, based in Exeter, England, operates in the environmental services sector by integrating weather and climate science with data and expert analysis to support decision-making for government, business, emergency responders, and the public. It processes vast amounts of weather and climate data daily and uses advanced technology to translate this information into timely forecasts and warnings tailored to the needs of diverse users. The organization collaborates with international partners to advance global climate understanding through research that supports critical services and UK resilience.

Recent years have seen the Met Office work with government, utilities, and academia to apply forecasts and climate risk insights in practical applications. In June 2026, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office announced a strategic partnership with the Met Office to drive AI-enabled weather forecasting.
